India Wine Challenge 2008 Launched
India Wine Challenge, which claims to be "country’s only major independent and truly influential wine competition", is now open for entries. The 2008 edition will begin with the preliminary round 7-9 October in London, followed by tastings in New Delhi, 11-12 November. More details here.

Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces
Taj Safaris will open two new luxury lodges, Pashan Garh and Banjaar Tola, in winter 2008. Following the success of Mahua Kothi and Baghvan, both new lodges will offer Taj Hotels' legendary hospitality and the expertise of CC (Conservation Corporation) Africa's unique and in-depth wildlife experiences. Banjaar Tola is located near the southern gate of Kanha National Park whereas the Pashan Garh is located in the Panna National Park.

The Oberoi Group of Hotels
Leading hospitality chain Oberoi Group is planning to set up 10 more hotels in India and abroad by the end of 2011 and adding 2,300 rooms.

Citymax Hotel Pune
After establishing its footprints in the Indian retail sector with Lifestyle, Max and Home Centre brands, Dubai-based Landmark Group is eyeing the hospitality pie. It has already instituted a separate company christened Citymax Hotels (India) and expects the first hotel to launch in the next 15 months.

Wine parks to open in Karnataka
To attract investors especially from Maharashtra, wine parks will be coming up in Chikkaballapur and Bijapur with the aim of increasing the area under grape cultivation. 7 Licenses will be issued to set up wineries at Bijapur, and these can be obtained by applying to the Deputy Commissioners office.

Tanqueray No. 10 Launched
Diageo recently launched Tanqueray No. 10 in Mumbai. It has been priced at Rs.3814 (Incl. of Taxes) and is the only gin in the world which is distilled using fresh citrus fruits.

Pernod enters Rum market with Havana Club
In a joint venture with the Republic of Cuba, Pernod has started rolling out the Havana Club white rum. This move will place Havana Club in the premium white rum segment and will prove to be serious competition for rival Bacardi. The Rum, priced at Rs. 450 per quart will be imported in bulk and bottled in Pernod's Punjab plant under supervision of Cuban authorities.

Cutty Sark launches blended malt scotch in Indian market
Cutty Sark International has launched a premium scotch whisky brand - Cutty Sark blended malt scotch whisky - in the Indian market priced at around Rs.2,500 per bottle. The new product, Cutty Sark blended malt scotch whisky, is a blend of only single malt whiskies and has no grain whiskies in it.

Absolut Masquerade debuts in the UK
After the launch of Bling Bling and Disco, Absolut is all set to release its latest variant Masquerade, in the UK. The new gift pack resembles a ball dress, sporting a red sequin cover with a zip down the back! “The recipe for our Bacardi Superior Mojito is the same as the classic Bacardi Mojito developed in the 1800’s by the mixology pioneers; Bacardi Superior is ideal as it was developed to mix with fresh mint, fresh lime juice, sugar and fizzy water. The only difference is the form of these ingredients, the processes used to make these forms and the addition of gelatin and Xanthan gum. The mint is pureed, strained and made into pearls by adding gelatin to the mint “water” and dropping the mixture into liquid nitrogen where it sets. The lime juice is sweetened and put through the same process to form pearls. The Bacardi rum is diluted with water, sweetened, thickened with a small amount of Xanthan gum and carbonated”
